Abstract: In this paper we show how multiple specialized simulators can beinterlinked at runtime to perform realistic simulations for vehicularad-hoc networks. We combine a network simulator (ns-2), a trafficsimulator (VISSIM), and an application level simulator(Matlab/Simulink) to enable the analysis of applications wherepre-calculated traces of vehicular movement patterns or predefinedcommunication traces are insufficient. One prominent example for thiskind of application is the transmission of emergency warnings. Wepresent the basic idea of the architecture, show how we haveimplemented it, and discuss performance issues. Finally, wedemonstrate the application of the environment to the analysis of asimple emergency warning application.
